Shanna & Zach: Rapid City Engagement Photography

They shared a dance at his cousin’s wedding, and have a photo of that moment hanging in their apartment. “It’s horrible,” she told me. Not so because they didn’t know what to say, or because they weren’t as light on their feet as they may have hoped. But because that photo is awkward. And for good reason—he was ten. She was twelve.

Although they lived in different towns, they developed a friendship over the course of several years, spending time together when he would visit his family in the hills. They lost touch when Shanna graduated high school, but as fate would have it, not for long. Shanna’s roommate invited her along to a party. Zach’s party. They reconnected, and ended up speaking often. After deciding to spend more time together face-to-face, they became inseparable. And the rest is history.

Shanna and Zach, thank you so much for choosing me to be your wedding photographer, and for letting me take much longer than normal on your engagement photos (I couldn’t stop!). I loved working with you, and can’t wait to get a not-awkward photo of your first dance as husband and wife. Enjoy a few of my favorites!

Shanna’s freckles make me jealous.

Black Hills Wedding Portrait Photographer, Rapid City, SD | Jessica Simons Photography […] It’s been such a blessing to see them grow; from newly-engaged, to newly-wed, and then to newly-a family. I’ve been so very honored to be a part of these milestones, and when they were in the Black Hills last fall, I could hardly contain myself at the thought of taking their family photos—with a one year old Savannah! (You may notice that their location looks familiar. I took their engagement photos here back in 2011. Take a walk down memory lane here). […]
